The Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure® Series raises significant funds and awareness for the fight against breast cancer, celebrates breast cancer survivorship, and honors those who have lost their battle with the disease.

With funds raised by the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure Series, Susan G. Komen for the Cure with its Affiliate Network is able to fund breast cancer research grants, meritorious awards, and community outreach programs.

Since its origination in Dallas, Texas, in 1983, Race for the Cure has grown from one local Race with 800 participants to a national series of more than 125 Races with over 1.5 million people expected to participate in 2007.

Up to 75 percent of the net proceeds raised by Greater Nashville's participation in the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure stays in Middle Tennessee. The proceeds are used to fund outreach programs and initiatives that address the specific unmet breast health needs of our community. A minimum of 25 percent of net proceeds raised supports the national Susan G. Komen for the Cure Award and Research Grant Program.

Some new features of the 2008 Race:

3 Miles of Men – We are introducing a new program for our gentlemen supporters and co-survivors. Men who want to support the cause without walking in a Breast Cancer event, will line our sidewalks with signs, pink wigs and encouragement for all their wives, daughters, sister’s and friends that are affected by this disease. more information coming soon!

Pink it Forward – Businesses and establishments can show support and join in the Promise by decorating their windows and patios. We want to paint the town Pink. A Pink it Forward kit will be given to all businesses along the Race Course, and also to any business in our service area that would like to express their dedication to the Promise. more information coming soon!

Spirit for the Cure – Cheerleaders, Pep Squads and Bands can enter our Spirit competition by uploading a 60 second video to our website. The group will then enlist all friends and family to vote for their Video to win the first ever Spirit for the Cure competition. The winner’s will become the Grand Marshall for our event and will be crowned the winner in our closing ceremony. Learn more

Sleep In for the Cure – If you're not an early riser but are still an advocate for Breast Health then register as a phantom walker, create a website to obtain pledges, and receive an all access pass to Race Village and entertainment that fall later in the day. more information coming soon!
