RACE TRAINING & VOLUNTEER OPEN HOUSE
Did you know that it takes almost 400 Volunteers to put together the Greater Nashville Race for the Cure???
With your help, 2007 was a fantastic event and the 2008 Race for the Cure is gearing up to be
even more amazing, BUT it can’t be done without you. With your help we are able to staff all of the
registration, start & finish lines, and the Race Villages.
So join us on Tuesday, September 16th from 6pm to 8pm as we start forming the volunteer staff for the
2008 Race for the Cure. The training will be held at the Jr. League Training Center at 2405 Crestmoor

The 2008 Race for the Cure is Saturday, October 4th, 2008. We are going to need volunteers to help
to set-up on Friday, October 3rd and help with all the aspects of the Race on October 4th.
We can’t do it without you!!!! So bring a friend and join us for the training session on September 16th.
Without your help…we will not see the end of Breast Cancer.

Frequently Asked Questions for Race for the Cure Volunteers
Q: Can I volunteer for the Race if I plan to run/walk in the race?
A: Yes. You can volunteer your time prior to the Race as we are preparing for the race. You can also
sign up to volunteer on race day; however only certain race day assignments are suitable for volunteers who are planning
to participate in the race.
Q: What would I be doing if I volunteered to work prior to the Race?
A: The volunteer assignments prior to the race include a variety of different positions and needs. The t-shirt packet portion involves gathering all the materials that are given to race participants and putting them
into particpant envelopes. For example, Packing a race bib for each participant, packing the t-shirt and any other materials that are to be distributed to race participants.
These type of assignments are called Pre-Race. In addition will we have hours of t-shirt pick up that we will need to have volunteers helping facilitate the distribution of t-shirts and race information.
Q: If I volunteer to work on the day of the race should I still register for the race?
A: Yes. The Greater Nashville Race for the Cure is the Greater Nashville Affiliate’s largest fund raiser for the year and
every registered person helps to raise money toward creating a world without breast cancer.
Q: Do I have to complete the electronic Komen Volunteer Release Form online?
A: Yes. All volunteers are required to complete and sign this form electronically. If you do not have access to a
computer or need assistance signing-up please call the Komen office at 615-383-0017.
Q: Do I have to be a year round volunteer or can I just volunteer for the Race for the Cure on October 4th?
A: You may request to only volunteer for the Race for the Cure. There are also events scheduled through out the year
that we would love to have you participate in. For further information on volunteer opportunities contact the Susan G.

Q: How old do you have to be to volunteer?
A: Anyone can volunteer. If they are under the age of 18 a parent/guardian will need to sign the Komen Volunteer
Release Form. In addition, the Race Director may decide to reassign the volunteer to age appropriate duties on Race
Day.
